Bangkok Day 5: Chatuchak Weekend Market, Victory Monument, Platinum Fashion Mall, Erawan Shrine, Central World

Day 5 in Bangkok was kinda a shopping day. We went to the famous Chatuchak Weekend Market. The market not only sells fashion stuffs but also pet products, home decors, plants and many more. It's definitely a must visit during your stay in Bangkok. The market only opens on the weekend so make sure you planned out your itinerary beforehand.

We found a place like food court and we had our breakfast there. The food was cheap and quite nice. We needed the energy to walk around the market because the market is very large and the weather was hot.

I didn't take any picture of the market though. I was just too concentrated in shopping. Compared with my last visit here, the choices were not that attractive and the price was increased. Nonetheless, I still managed to find some hidden gems. But one thing for sure, the pet stuffs were really cheap there. I saw a lot of them carrying bags of pet products. I even bought a pet bed, catnip and a cat toy for my baby cat just under 500 Baht. How cheap was that?!

Chatuchak Weekend Market
Opening hours: 08:00 hrs - 20:00 hrs (Saturday - Sunday)
How to get there: 1) BTS to (N8) Mo Chit Station (Sukhumvit Line), take exit 1 and walk straight 100m to Chatuchak Park on your right. 2) MRT to Kampheng Phet MRT station, take exit 1 and you will be inside the market

After few hours of shopping, we headed to Victory Monument to have our lunch. There are a lot of Thai Boat Noodle restaurants there but I was on the hunt of the famous one. The one that I was looking for will free a big bottle of Pepsi for 20 bowls of noodles ordered and it had great reviews too.

They provide different noodles and soup base and we tried one that was like bihun and one like wanton mee. Both tasted great too. They serve boat noodles in a very small portion so we kept ordered for more. The restaurant was fulled of customers as compared with others. Many of them are locals too, proved that it's the best of them all.

After we had our lunch, we took a picture of the Victory Monument and headed to our next destination.

Opening hours: 11:00 – 21:00 Daily
How to get there: BTS to Victory Monument (Exit 3). Walk along the skybridge towards the monument. Then go down and you will see the boat noodles stalls beside the canal. Look for the Pepsi sign for the right one.

After we had our meal and re-boost our energy, we headed to Platinum Mall to continue our shopping. It's similar with Pratunam Market, mainly for wholesale but an indoor version and air-conditioned. I would recommend to go with a couple of friends and purchase more to get a cheaper price.

Just like Chatuchak Market, I felt that the price wasn't as cheap as my last visit here but you could still be able to explore some affordable finds. I totally forgot to take pictures of the mall but the mall is very evident with its huge Platinum Mall sign.

Platinum Fashion Mall
Opening hours: 10:00 - 22:00
How to get there: BTS to Chit Lom and walk for 10-15 minutes along Central World and you will find Platinum Fashion Mall. Just nearby Pratunam Market.

As the night falls, we went to Erawan Shrine to pray. The shrine was built to honour the four-faced Brahma God. The shrine is famous for granting prayer's wish but be careful with what you wish for if you're unable to repay what you've promised once the wish was granted.

After some praying, we went on to pay the dancers just for the sake of it. Some people will pay a lot of money to the dancers to redeem their vows but we were doing it just to thank God for keeping us alive and well. The aura there was too overwhelming and I almost teared up just standing there.

Erawan Shrine
Opening hours: 06:00 - 24:00
How to get there: BTS to Chit Lom and walk towards Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel. You will find it situated in the middle of the street.

After the spiritual visit, we went to Central World to have the famous toast from After You. I couldn't get over it since I tried it last time. Since it was quite late when we went there, there was no queue at all. We ordered Shibuya Honey Toast and Nutella Toast and they vanished within seconds after they were being served. Definitely will visit again if I happened to be in Thailand.

Shibuya Honey Toast. A must order!
